The JumpStart program is a four-week summer program for freshmen and transfer students to help them get off to a good foundational start before the fall semester begins.
The JumpStart: ASL Program is a sign language immersion program. Through the program, students learn enough basic sign skills before fall semester so that they can communicate with other Gallaudet students, staff, and faculty and make the best use of campus services. In addition to sign language instruction, students also receive information about Gallaudet's history and traditions, deaf awareness, and deaf culture. Students also participate in Learning through Discovery, a popular-adventure-based outdoor program focusing on developing teamwork as well as decision-making and conflict resolution skills.Students also participate in Learning through Discovery, an adventure-based outdoor program focusing on developing teamwork as well as decision-making and conflict resolution skills.
