Academics

Colleges across the nation emphasize that a student’s first year is crucial in setting a clear path toward a successful academic and employment career. If you give your all and do exceptionally well academically, particularly during your first college year, you will create the momentum that is needed to carry you through to the day you receive your diploma. Building a solid foundation from the start, establishing good study habits and time management skills, will make it easier for everything else to fall in place. A lot also depends on your willingness to "take the bull by the horns"--that is, taking the initiative to start your college education on the right foot. So make that your goal, starting with the Placement Tests.

Do your best with these tests because your scores will determine which English, math, and American Sign Language courses you need to take: You will not be able to register for these courses or any other courses until you complete the Placement Tests. Transfer students who want their course credits transferred from other colleges and universities they have attended need to follow the established procedure in having these credits evaluated for approval. If not, they may be required to repeat the course. Students interested in taking Honors courses must first apply to the Honors Program.

Part of staying on top of your academic career at Gallaudet requires keeping track of deadlines and pertinent dates listed on the University’s academic calendar, so be sure to include these dates on your online calendar or keep a printout near your study desk.
