Timothy Anderson
Short Biography

Mr. Timothy Anderson was born deaf in Minnesota to hearing parents and grew up with non-signers until the age of 6.   He learned English on his own before attending a residential school for deaf students where he learned ASL.  He spent youth reading and writing in English and retained ASL even after transferring to a hearing school.   During college, he majored in English and became convinced that teaching English to deaf students was to be his career objective.  He became intrigued by teaching English to deaf international adults in 1988 and joined the ELI at Northwest Campus of Gallaudet University.  As the ELI grew, he cultivated his teaching, signing, and administrative skills.  After 17 years of teaching ELI students, he decided to teach freshmen in the English Department of Gallaudet University.  He missed the culturally teachable moments and the unique personalities of ELI students as well as the ELI staff.  In Fall, 2010, he returned to the ELI to teach English again.
