Short Biography

Dr. Pilar Piñar is an Associate Professor of Spanish and Chair of the Department of World Languages and Cultures at Gallaudet.

Dr. Piñar received her Ph. D. in Linguistics from the University of Arizona in 1996. She joined the Department of Foreign Languages at Gallaudet University in 1997.

She has published in the areas of language processing and literacy and gesture and sign language. She is an affiliated researcher with the Visual Language and Visual Learning (VL2) science of learning center at Gallaudet University. (http://vl2.gallaudet.edu)

She has also developed materials for foreign language teaching, including a textbook/DVD published by Yale University Press.
