Raymond C. Merritt, Jr., has been a faculty member at Gallaudet since 2002. He was awarded a Ph.D. in Neuroscience and Cognitive Science from the University of Maryland in 2009. Dr. Merritt performed his dissertation research at the National Institute on Deafness and other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) at the National Institute of Health (NIH). His research focused on inner ear proteins which contribute to deafness in animals. During his graduate career, he was also a Ford Foundation Diversity Fellow.
Dr. Merritt uses his expertise in molecular biology to collaborate with two different laboratories at NIH. He performs research on the Cancer Research project in the newly constructed Molecular Genetics Laboratory. He has also continued his collaboration with Dr. Kachar's Laboratory of Cell Structure and Dynamics. Dr. Merritt' research was recently featured on Gallaudet's home page as part of the Research with Deaf Scientists series.
Dr. Merritt has taught Genetics, Introduction to Biology, and Principles of Biology for Science Majors.
