Deaf and Hard of Hearing High School Students Vie for Title in National Academic Bowl

Midwest Regional competition is set for Feb. 21-24 in Indianapolis, hosted by the Indiana School for the Deaf

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Deaf and hard of hearing high school students from around the nation will face off in what can be considered a showcase of academic excellence. Which team will emerge as the best of the Midwest Region? Who will take home the coveted national Academic Bowl trophy?Deaf and hard of hearing high school students are preparing for this year's regional of the Gallaudet University Academic Bowl for Deaf and Hard of Hearing High School Students. The Midwest Regional will take place Feb. 21-24, hosted by Indiana School for the Deaf in Indianapolis. The National Academic Bowl is sponsored by Gallaudet University and its five regional centers around the country. This year’s national sponsor is Sorenson Communications.

The Midwest Regional promises to deliver excitement. Teams will compete for the top two spots, ensuring a trip to the National Academic Bowl competition in April 26-29 at Gallaudet University. Last year’s National Academic Bowl champion, John Hersey High School in Arlington Heights, Ill., is from the Midwest. Since its inception in 1997, the National Academic Bowl’s purpose has been to foster the pursuit of academic excellence, promote a spirit of academic competition and good sportsmanship, and encourage social opportunities for collegiality among students.
