May 5: Campus-wide Intergroup Dialogue
Building Unity through Diversity: A Campus-wide Dialogue on Climate & Community @ Gallaudet
1 - 4 p.m.
Location TBD
How can I learn to express exactly how I feel about diversity issues without being misunderstood? How can I learn to pay attention to the views others express about diversity that differ from my views?
Intergroup dialogue, different from discussion and debate, is a structured form of group conversation in which the focus is on understanding differences in perspectives as a pathway to meaningful relationship building in the classroom and workplace.
This event is intended to introduce the Gallaudet community as a whole to the concept of intergroup dialogue as a prelude to a broad range of intergroup dialogue initiatives that will be launched during the the 2008-2009 academic year.
February 29 - April 25
Group or one-on-one interviews
All members of the campus community-students, faculty, and staff-can share information about their experiences of diversity on campus in a highly confidential manner in three different ways:
- Participate in a scheduled group interview with one or more members of the consultant group;
- Schedule an individual interview with one or more members of the consultant group; or,
- Email one or more members of the consultant group directly:
chriseclark@mac.com (Christine Clark)
silence2006@mac.com (Mark Brimhall-Vargas)
247realtor@gmail.com (Mary Graham-Fisher)
Please communicate your interest in participating in an individual or group interview by sending an email to Christine Clark at chriseclark@mac.com.
How will our information be used without violating confidentiality?
Experiences you share with the consultants will be organized into general "finding themes" and presented to the campus for discussion and feedback on May 1, from 2 to 5 p.m. (location TBD). Based on both the findings and feedback, the consultant group, working in collaboration with the Diversity Team, will make recommendations for how Gallaudet might best move forward with its diversity efforts.When will the individual or group opportunities for sharing information be conducted and how do I/we get on the schedule?
