Vice President of Institutional Advancement position
Email from committee chair and BOT member, Dr. Frank Wu to campus community
March 18, 2008
Dear Campus Community:
I would like to give you an update on the progress of our search for a Vice President for Institutional Advancement.
I am pleased to inform you that the Interview Committee for the Vice President for Institutional Advancement (ICVPIA) met on March 12 with Dr. Kim Morrisson of Diversified Search Ray & Berndtson to discuss the role of the interview committee and to clarify the steps of the interview process. As President Davila mentioned in his earlier email to the community, the University engaged professional consultants to guide us through this important search and recruitment effort. The ICVPIA has a range of members, representing the stakeholders of the University.
We made great progress in our first meeting and I want to thank the interview committee for its commitment. I also thank the members of the Gallaudet community who have already participated in the earlier information gathering process conducted by the consultants.
The ICVPIA will interview several highly qualified candidates within the next few weeks and make recommendations to Dr. Davila, who will make the final decision.
The Vice President for Institutional Advancement is a very important position for our community. In order to ensure that we have a high caliber pool of applicants, their privacy must be respected until an appropriate time later in the process.
We have posted the position description and Dr. Davila's previous email on the President's Office website. We intend to keep you informed of our progress through periodic campus emails and Daily Digest. All of those announcements will also be posted at this website: http://www.gallaudet.edu/ICVPIA.xml.
If you have any questions or wish to obtain additional information, please send an email to Mark Amissah at mark.amissah@gallaudet.edu. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Frank H. Wu
Chair, ICVPIA
Vice Chair, Board of Trustees
Email from President Davila to the Campus Community

In the fall of 2007, the University contracted the services of a reputable institutional advancement executive search consultant, Diversified Search Ray & Berndtson, to conduct a search for applicants for the position of vice president for Institutional Advancement. This position is an important one for Gallaudet as it oversees the Offices of Public and Alumni Relations, as well as Development. In an effort to develop a comprehensive position description, late last fall, the consultants met not only with the president and his management team, but also met with or contacted various groups and individuals on and off campus, including students, faculty, staff, and trustees. They met with these groups and individuals to gather information regarding the desired qualities, qualifications, experience, and knowledge that Gallaudet needs in the individual selected for this position. The consultants also actively asked for and were given names of potential applicants.
Over the past several months, the position has been advertised and now several potential candidates have been identified. We are now ready to move forward with interviews. I have asked Mark Amissah to coordinate the logistics and to serve as the liaison from my office for both the interview committee and process.
In addition to emails to the campus community about the progress of the interview committee and the search for a new vice president, a website will be established soon on the homepage of the President's Office, president.gallaudet.edu, with updated information. If you have any questions or wish to obtain additional information, please send an email to Mark Amissah at mark.amissah@gallaudet.edu.
