The Athletic department consists of fourteen varsity programs and one club team. GU competes in baseball, men's & women's basketball, men's & women's cross country, football, men's & women's soccer, softball, men's & women's swimming, men's and women's track and women's volleyball. Fall and winter GU cheerleading is a club team. The Athletics department also offers an intramural sports program.

Gallaudet University annually awards the following honors and recognitions under the Academic Affairs Unit (among others):Distinguished Faculty Award: recognizes an individual on the faculty who exemplifies the stature of the entire university faculty. Professor Emeritus Award: recognizes faculty with 15 or more years of distinguished service as a faculty member, and retired within the last ten years.Honorary Degree Award: recognizes extraordinary contributions to a specific field or to society in general.
Academic Programs and Departments
Gallaudet is dedicated to increasing the number of deaf and hard of hearing professionals in science and technology fields. Students in the Department of Science, Technology and Mathematics can choose our Pre-Medicine Program, apply for scholarships funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation or work at off-campus internships through collaborations with programs at Duke University, Tufts University and James Madison University.
