Contact Tracing

SUBJECT TO CHANGE

The contact tracing process begins when someone:
  • Self-reports a positive test or close contact* off-campus
  • Has a positive covid test through on-campus testing
    • SHS will notify the GU/CC Contact Tracing Teams of positive results.

You may report potentially high-risk behaviors of others by emailing contact.tracing@gallaudet.edu.

* Close contact is defined as being within 6 feet for a total of 15+ minutes 2 days prior to onset of illness, with or without a mask.

Quarantine: None if no symptoms. Permitted to come to work while waiting for results, with masks and social distancing during full 14 day incubation period regardless of University mask status.

Complete daily health assessment for self awareness, whether or not coming to campus.

Monitor for symptoms (see note 2)
Test: Three days after exposure date and again on every third day thereafter until the end of the 14 day incubation period.
(Days 3, 6, 9, 12. 15)
Unvaccinated Individual in close contact (15 min or more mask off) with a COVID positive individual
Notification that you were in close contact.

Questions about who else you may have been in close contact with
Quarantine: 14 days*

Complete daily health assessment to monitor for any symptoms, whether or not coming to campus.
Test: On Day 5 either by coming to campus, testing, and immediately returning home, or testing outside of GU and submitting results to SHS.

Test again on Day 10 and wait for clear results before returning to work.
Vaccinated individual in same household, regardless of relationship, with COVID positive household member
Quarantine: 3 days; come to campus to be tested on third day and return home. Begin work on 4th day after exposure after receiving negative test results.

Complete daily health assessment for self awareness, whether or not coming to campus.

Monitor for symptoms (see note 2)
Test: After 3 day quarantine – get tested every three days until 14 days pass
(Days 3, 6, 9, 12, 15)
Vaccinated individual had close contact w/a person (vaccinated or unvaccinated) with known exposure to a COVID+ person (even if the person themselves has not yet tested positive)
Notification you were in close contact with a person who had known exposure – not yet positive themselves
Quarantine: None.

Complete daily health assessment for self awareness, whether or not coming to campus.

Test: After 3 day quarantine – get tested every three days until 14 days pass
(Days 3, 6, 9, 12, 15)

* Any individual who is requested to quarantine by the Clerc Center or Gallaudet University  contact tracing team due to close contact with a COVID positive individual will not be charged leave for the quarantine period. Individuals are required to come to campus for testing at the front gate on the required schedule while on leave. Noncompliance with testing requirements will result in leave being charged to the individual. 

Note 2: Recommendations for the person with symptoms who is FULLY VACCINATED

  • If a fully vaccinated person starts feeling symptoms while on campus
    • Do not continue working;  gather what you need to go home and depart campus as soon as possible after being tested. 
    • Contact your supervisor or another member of your administrative team
    • Supervisor or Individual will inform the contact tracing team
    • Contact tracing team will inform SHS or testing team in order to have you get tested before leaving campus
  • Person has symptoms and positive test for COVID-19 or clinical diagnosis of COVID-19
    • May return when it has been at least 10 days since symptoms first appeared AND no fever for at least 24 hours without fever-reducing medication AND improvement of other symptoms.
    • All close contacts: follow close contact guidelines
  • Person has symptoms and negative test for COVID-19
    • May return when symptoms have improved, no fever for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication
