  • When is the first day I can use my meal plan?
    • August 28, 2021
  • What meal plan options are available?
  • If I have a special diet, where can I go?
    • Documentation must include a physician’s letter stating that the student has a specific food-related medical condition and identifies the condition. This will assist the committee with determining if our food service program can accommodate the food-related medical condition.
  • How will cafeteria meals be safe from COVID?
    • The Plaza Dining Hall will open as a take-out program only, emphasizing and prioritizing safety by minimizing indoor interactions, requiring face masks and physically distancing. There will be a la carte items packaged by food service employees and grab-and-go options available for purchase.
    • If you reside on campus, you are required to participate in the meal program. The meal program consists of and is a take-out program to include grab-and-go meals, a la carte options, as well as a main entrée option served by food service employees and given to the student in a to-go container.
  • If I get COVID and I have to quarantine, how can I get my meals?
    • Students who are in isolation and would like a care package consisting of non-perishable food, snacks, fruits and beverages, should email plaza.cafeteria@gmail.com and the care package will be delivered within 24 hours.
  • What is the email address for Meals?
  • If I get sick, how will Student Health services support me?
    • SHS is staffed with a physician, Nurse Practitioner, and RNs and is able to provide basic, primary care, such as treating, respiratory infection, asthma, bronchitis, skin infections, UTIs, injuries, STI (sexually transmitted infections), physical exams, etc, and students are referred to local specialists or other health care facilities for services if needed – for example orthopedics, dental, neurology, or the ER, etc.
  • Can I just show up at the Student Health Clinic if I need to?
    • Students are encouraged to schedule appointments to help SHS comply with the current social distancing policy. It allows SHS to better space its patients. However, if there is an urgent need or an emergency, you may report to SHS as a walk-in patient.
  • How do I make an appointment with SHS?
  • What supports do you have in place to protect COVID?
    • Encouragement to social distance, wear masks, weekly testing, self assessment in the Service Now App
  • If I have COVID, what can you do?
    • Students who test positive for Covid-19 will be placed in isolation in an assigned dorm according to CDC’s recommendation and contact tracing will be performed to identify others who may have been exposed to this student. These students will then be retested for Covid-19 at the end of their isolation period and released from isolation if they have a negative Covid-19 result. Those whose symptoms become worse during isolation will be referred to the hospital.

    • Costs extra $20 per night and the charge will be billed to your student account

    • Only one person can enter the building at a time to help you move in. Members of your family can take turns helping you move in your room.

  • How do I access Business Registration?

  • What is Business Registration and why is it required? 
    • Business Registration is a mandatory process that students must complete each semester. Student Financial Services (SFS) recognizes the information provided within Business Registration as a student’s official confirmation that they will attend that particular semester. Business Registration ensures that housing and meal plans are selected, health insurance is arranged or waived, acknowledge that they will adhere to GU policies, and ensure financial aid is set.

New Signers Freshman and Transfer Students

JumpStart

  1. Upload your Health History and Immunization form in the Enrollment Portal to Enter the #BetterTogetherAtGallaudet contest. Last Day to be vaccinated is July 11, 2021.
  2. Make sure deposit is paid in FULL in the Enrollment Portal or download the VR authorization form and send it to your Admissions Counselor (AC).
  3. If you are bringing your car and need a parking pass, fill out BOTH the vehicle registration form and parking permit agreement before you arrive at Gallaudet. Pick up your parking permit at SLCC when you go for your COVID testing.
  4. Pack and get ready to move into your dorm on July 24-25, 2021! Use this address to ship boxes, if needed, before you arrive: (Your Name) 800 Florida Ave NE, Washington, DC 20002
  5. When you arrive on campus, show DPS staff at the front kiosk that you have filled out the self-assessment in the ServiceNow App.
  6. GO STRAIGHT to Sorenson Language and Communication Center (SLCC) for COVID-19 testing, ID and key pick up. To save time waiting for your ID, please upload your picture in Bison before arrival; review the instructions here. If you are unable to do so, your photo will be taken on campus.
  7. Then you can go ahead and head to your assigned dorm and move in after 8am is the time to check in at Benson Hall. Only ONE family member at a time can accompany you to your room, wearing a mask. Other family members may stay outside at the car while you unload your belongings, and they can take turns accompanying you to your room. Each family member will need to fill out the visitor self-assessment, available here, just before arrival. If unable to complete online, they may fill out the paper self-assessment form upon arrival.
  8. Unvaccinated students will need to quarantine in their dorm room for 10 days upon arrival and receive a Covid-19 test on day 5 or later during this period.
  9. Bring your parents to a Happy Hour at Kellogg Conference Center July 25, 2021 at 3p-5p. RSVP here!
  10. JumpStart Students will attend a Kick-off Dinner at Ely Patio on Sunday July 25, 2021 at 5p-7p.
  11. Join others for a FUN 4 weeks at on Monday July 26th 1-3pm @ JSAC MPR
  12. After the completion of the JumpStart Program on August 20, 2021, please use the weekend before NSO kick-off on August 24th to navigate around D.C.! Use Gallaudet Apple Maps!

Returning Students

  1. Email a copy of your Covid-19 vaccine OR waiver sent in before coming on campus to shs.results@gallaudet.edu OR request a waiver before coming on campus in order to Enter the #BetterTogetherAtGallaudet contest. Last Day to be vaccinated is August 16, 2021. **Unvaccinated students will need to quarantine in their dorm room for 10 days upon arrival and receive a Covid-19 test on day 5 or later during this period.
  2. If you’d like to mail packages to Gallaudet prior to moving in, you are welcome to ship boxes to Gallaudet’s Post Office at: (Your Name) 800 Florida Ave NE, Washington DC 20002.
  3. If you are bringing your car and need a parking pass, fill out BOTH the vehicle registration form and parking permit agreement before you arrive at Gallaudet. Pick up your parking permit at a tent outside of DPS 8a-5p on July 25, 2021.
  4. When you arrive on campus, show that you have filled out the self-assessment in the ServiceNow App.
  5. If you have lost your ID, GO STRAIGHT to DPS at Carlin Hall to pick up your ID. To save time, please upload your picture in Bison following the guidelines for your Gallaudet ID before arrival. If you are unable to do so, DPS will take your picture at their Carlin Hall office.
  6. Proceed to Sorenson Language and Communication Center (SLCC) for COVID-19 testing.
  7. Get ready to reunite/meet your roommate! Check in at your assigned dorm hall anytime between 8a-5p on August 25 – 29, 2021. Only ONE family member at a time can accompany you to your room, wearing a mask. Other family members may stay outside at the car while you unload your belongings, and they can take turns accompanying you to your room. Each family member will need to fill out the visitor self-assessment, available here, just before arrival. If unable to complete online, they may fill out the paper self-assessment form upon arrival.
  8. Get ready for a FUN week returning to in person classes on the first day of school, August 30, 2021.

DeafBlind/OSWD Students

Freshman/Sophomores/Transfer students

New Students

  1. FRESHMEN AND TRANSFERS ONLY: Submit Health History and Immunization form in the enrollment portal to Enter the #BetterTogetherAtGallaudet contest. Last Day to be vaccinated is August 8, 2021 for face to face New Student Orientation.
  2. SOPHOMORES ONLY: Email a copy of your vaccination record to shs.results@gallaudet.edu if you are a returning student from one semester to the next the same docs are fine and don’t need to be turned in a second time. If you are gone for a semester or longer, you are required to complete the health history form again; no immunization record is required unless they received boosters. Then they need a new immunization record to reflect the new boosters. Now with students that have been out for a year, due to COVID, an updated health history form is pertinent if they were diagnosed COVID+ and/or if they had additional health issues or a significant change with their health. Last Day to be vaccinated is August 8, 2021 for face to face New Student Orientation.
  3. SOPHOMORES ONLY: Register for In-Person Orientation. You may attend the online orientation if you need a refresher, it is not required.
  4. Freshmen and Transfer Students ONLY: Make sure deposit is paid in FULL in the Enrollment Portal or download the VR authorization form and send to admissions at admissions@gallaudet.edu
  5. Prior to arriving to Gallaudet, you are welcome to ship boxes, if needed, to: (Your Name) 800 Florida Ave NE, Washington, DC 20002.

If you are unable to do so, DPS will take your picture at Field House.
  9. Next, check in at your assigned dorm between August 22-24, 2021 after 8am! Get excited to meet your roommate!
    Only ONE family member at a time can accompany you to your room, wearing a mask. Other family members may stay outside at the car while you unload your belongings, and they can take turns accompanying you to your room. Each family member will need to fill out the visitor self-assessment, available here, just before arrival. If unable to complete online, they may fill out the paper self-assessment form upon arrival.

  12. First in-person Meet and Greet with Your Peer Leader and Classmates on August 24, 2021 at your assigned location 7pm-8:30pm
  13. Join other new students for a FUN week of orientation kick-off on Tuesday August 24, 2021 at Ely Patio 9pm-11pm!

Honors Students

  1. Online Synchronous sessions August 17th and 19th both from 7-8pm.
  2. Honors Family Hour August 16th at 8pm. Zoom link will be sent to family and students the week prior.
  3. Unvaccinated/Waived Students will need to quarantine in their dorm room for 10 days before August 22.
  4. Vaccinated Students: Move in August 22, 2021.
  5. Honors Day Apart August 23, 2021.
  6. Join New Student Orientation (NSO) with other new students August 24, 2021

1st AND 2nd year

Graduate Students

  1. Turn in vaccination records to shs.results@gallaudet.edu to Enter the #BetterTogetherAtGallaudet contest. Last day to be vaccinated is August 16, 2021.
  2. Complete your FAFSA ASAP if you have not yet done so at fafsa.ed.gov.
  3. Make sure your enrollment deposit is paid through your acceptance portal.
  4. If you are an international graduate student, E-ISO is on August 12 at 9 a.m. via Zoom. New international students with forms I-20 or DS-2019 also have a mandatory SEVIS check-in on August 13.
  5. Pack up and get ready to meet your roommate August 22, 2021 at 10 am.
  6. When you arrive on campus, show that you have filled out the self-assessment in the ServiceNow App.
  7. Go to the DPS office to pick up your ID card.
  8. Go to the Carlin Hall front desk on the first floor to check in. Only ONE family member at a time can assist with the move in wearing a mask. Unvaccinated family members may drive on campus and stay in the car while you unload your belongings.
  9. Individual graduate programs to host orientation sessions August 23-27, 2021.
  10. Arrival day for new graduate students in-person is August 25, 2021. Proceed to check in at the Field House between 9 am and 3 pm.

International Students

  1. International Student Orientation (ISO) – Aug 12 and 13 from 10 AM to 4 PM
  2. Attendance is mandatory
  3. ISO will be held by virtual (Zoom)
  4. Please follow the New Student Checklist for further instructions/information on New Student Orientation.
