Call for Digital Fellows

The Provost is pleased to announce the 2018--2020 Call for Digital Fellows. The mission of this initiative is to implement adaptive digital learning courseware and pedagogy to maximize successful completion of gateway courses with an emphasis in the humanities.  This Call focuses on:

  • Undergraduate gateway courses (courses with historically high failure rates (D,F,WD)
  • All academic disciplines with emphasis in the humanities
  • Identification and implementation of digital adaptive learning courseware such as SmartSparrow, Acrobatiq, and similar courseware
  • A commitment of two-years 

Eligibility 

All Gallaudet University tenured, tenure track, and non-tenure track faculty are eligible to apply. Those employed at GU but not on the tenure-track, whose evaluation criteria include research or creative activity, are eligible to submit proposals with an explanation of the importance of research or creative activity to their evaluation in the letter of support from their chair or dean. Applicants must have an ASLPI rating of 2+ or higher. Visiting and adjunct faculty, part-time faculty, post-doctoral fellows, and graduate students are not eligible.

Award and Expectations

Digital Fellows receive the following support:

  • Up to $1,000 to be applied toward the implementation of an approved digital fellows project, including courseware development costs 
  • Professional development opportunities through a variety of activities supported by the Gallaudet Digital Fellows initiative such as meetings with invited presenters, regular meetings with the Digital Fellows core team and other fellows
  • A stipend of $500 per semester for two years of development, implementation, and assessment of the redesigned course

Gallaudet Digital Fellows are expected to:

  • Adopt high quality digital adaptive courseware as part of a gateway course re-design
    • Research and select digital adaptive courseware
    •  Implement the selected digital courseware in the re-designed gateway course
    •  Assess the impact of the course re-design on student success 
  •  Present the results of your Gallaudet Digital Fellows project as part of Professional Development Week
  •  Meet with Gallaudet leadership, work with the Gallaudet Digital Fellows core team, and other Gallaudet Digital Fellows
  •  Provide a written and video report on the results of your Digital Fellows project

Application Requirements

Application consists of the following items which should be provided and shared via the application form link below.

  • One- to two-page (single-spaced) narrative that summarizes your project idea including the name of the gateway course you plan to re-design and a brief project plan with timeline. Submit the narrative in both ASL and English.
  • Up-to-date Curriculum Vitae
  • A brief letter of support from your department chair

Applications are due no later than September 17th, 2018!
