As the world’s only bilingual American Sign Language and English university, we are committed to providing a barrier-free education with exceptional support. Deaf and hard of hearing students enjoy direct communication with faculty and staff in classes, activities and student services. Interpreting and real-time captioning services are provided for students with less signing experience than others.
Campus design, classroom technology and personal attention create a collaborative, welcoming environment at Gallaudet.
Our commitment to accessibility also includes comprehensive academic support services, services for students with disabilities and a full-service Hearing and Speech Center.
OSWD provides individually tailored, comprehensive support services to promote equal access and opportunity for students with disabilities.
GIS provides American Sign Language–English interpretation in the classroom and at campus events. Last year GIS provided thousands of hours of interpreting on campus.
To ensure students don’t miss any information, real-time captioning services are provided as needed in the classroom and at campus events through CART (Communication Access Real-Time).
