On April 13th, 2009, during the demolition of the Mary Thornberry Building a time capsule was found behind the building's cornerstone. Inside were issues of the "Buff and Blue" and other Gallaudet publications, articles related to hearing and speech from the 1950s, a gold-plated hearing aid, and a photograph of the Speech and Audiology Department. The time capsule was sealed in 1958 and was an amazing discovery here on Kendall Green.

We are currently at work on a very large and exciting manuscript collection, the Papers of I. King Jordan. Pictured below is Graduate student assistant Kati Morton at work helping to sort and organize the collection.
The Archives is undergoing a six-month long project of digitizing its deaf rare books collection. Thanks to a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and Northplains Systems we have been able to rent a very sophisticated scanner from Kirtas Technologies. An entire book can be digitized in approximately 15 minutes! Our goal is to have 150 books digitized.
