On August 2014, Dr. Joyce Ester became the fifth president of Normandale Community College, located in Bloomington, Minnesota. She brings extensive experience in higher education administration with a demonstrated track record of results-driven leadership. Previously she was president of Kennedy-King College, one of the city colleges of Chicago; associate vice president for Student Services at Bakersfield College in California; and assistant vice president at California State University, Fresno.
Dr. Ester has multiple connections to the Deaf Community. She learned ASL from a deaf aunt and her first job out of college was in a group home where all the clients and staff were deaf. She later taught ASL at Santa Barbara City College.
Dr. Ester has a long-standing connection with continuing education programs and has presided over many business partnerships.
