Honorary Trustee
Dr. Marlee Matlin, H’87 served as a trustee from 2008 to 2011, after which she was appointed an honorary trustee, a lifetime appointment.
She received her honorary doctorate of humane letters from Gallaudet University in 1987. She has served a highly visible role in the deaf community in the decades since receiving the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1986 for her role in Paramount Pictures’ “Children of a Lesser God.”
In addition to winning an Oscar, she received the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Drama. Since then, she has starred in more than a dozen movies and TV series. In 2015 she made her Broadway debut in the revival of the Tony Award winning musical, “Spring Awakening.”
In 2009 she published her New York Times best-selling autobiography, “I’ll Scream Later.” She has authored three novels for children including “Deaf Child Crossing” and “Nobody’s Perfect.”
In 2015 she developed "Marlee Signs," an app for teaching American Sign Language.
She makes her home in the Los Angeles area.
