I really enjoyed JumpStart. And the reason for that is well, when I first came here, I didn’t know anything about American Sign Language or Deaf Culture. When people were signing, often I found that I couldn’t understand what they were saying. But with the JumpStart activities, they were really enjoyable. The people were fun. One of the ways I challenged myself this past semester was by joining the Keep the Promise Club. In that club, there are a lot of people that were using sign language and all the presentations were also done in ASL. Sometimes I was able to understand and keep up; other times I got a little lost. But I’d ask for help and I knew that people were willing to help. They enjoyed helping out new signers. I’m learning a lot about myself.
