The Clerc Center and Campus Design and Planning are currently working with Cox Graae + Spack Architects to prepare a Pre-Design document for a new student residence hall for the Model Secondary School for the Deaf. This early feasibility study has been undertaken to support efforts to secure federal funding for the much needed residence hall.
The new building would provide approximately 150 student beds and apartments for dorm counselors to replace the residence halls demolished as a part of the recently completed site stabilization project and the aging girls residence hall remaining on the MSSD site. The new residence hall is envisioned as a vibrant residential community that offers its student residents with a home-away-from-home combined with a host of learning and social spaces that facilitate MSSD’s rich mix of after-school programs.
The new residence hall would house boys and girls in separate wings connected to a central shared space for the after school amenities. The centralized plan will enhance operational efficiencies and security while encouraging social interaction among students.
