Experience That Adds Up

Help manage part of the university's investment portfolio. Intern with NASA's budget division. Prepare income tax returns for local community members. In Gallaudet's accounting program, you will gain practical experience in preparing and examining financial records. Courses provide a broad foundation in management, problem solving, communication and ethics that prepares you for a range of positions in government or private industry.

All students are required to complete at least one internship, selecting from many opportunities with our federal and private partners. You may also choose to work closely with faculty to prepare for the CPA examination or for graduate school.

ACBSP Accreditation

The BS in Accounting Program was accredited by ACBSP in 2000 and reaffirmed in 2010. It's up for reaffirmation in 2020.

Courses and Degree Requirements

We encourage students to start taking courses in their major during their first year.


All students must complete at least one internship in their field that includes 100 hours on the job. The department internship coordinator helps students obtain hands-on positions that provide valuable professional experience and contacts.

Career Outcomes

All of Gallaudet's recent business and accounting majors are employed (75 percent) or in graduate school (25 percent) within one year of graduation. Learn more about alumni of the Department of Business.

Training and Job Outlook

Most accountant and auditor positions require at least a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field. Earning a CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or other certifications improves job prospects.

Employment of accountants is projected to grow 13 percent from 2012 to 2022, about as fast as the average for all occupations.
