Want to learn more about the insurance industry and how to manage risk? The Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) program is designed to provide students with an understanding of the insurance industry and the current academic and practitioner literature on financial risk management. In this program, students will explore investment and financing policies, as well as pricing and underwriting activities.
Students will learn how to measure and manage the types of risks facing financial institutions, corporations, and individuals. The RMI program prepares students for careers in the financial services industry, including insurance companies, banks, securities firms, and pension funds. Internships give students an opportunity to apply what they've learned from the classroom.
We encourage students to start taking courses in their major during their first year.
All students must complete at least one internship in their field that includes 100 hours on the job. The department internship coordinator helps students obtain hands-on positions that provide valuable professional experience and contacts.
According to estimates from the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of jobs in such positions as actuaries, financial analysts, accountants, and auditors are expected to grow faster than the average for all occupations through 2022.
Our Mentoring Program pairs business students with professionals in the field for academic, personal and career advice.
