The Jeffrey I. Saloshin Seminar on Law and Criminal Justice provides students with a hands-on opportunity to learn about the United States' criminal justice system. In this three-credit seminar, students speak with and tour the workplaces of criminal justice professionals, such as police officers, defense attorneys, detectives, and judges. The goal of this seminar is to prepare students for jobs in the field of criminal justice and to apply the sociological imagination in the real world.
The Saloshin Seminar also examines the specific experiences of deaf and hard of hearing individuals in the criminal justice system. The course may include meetings with D.C. police officers whose work focuses on deaf and hard of hearing individuals, or with criminal justice professionals who are themselves deaf and hard of hearing.
Gallaudet University is a federally chartered private and premier university for the deaf and hard of hearing since 1864.
