The International Symposium on Sign Language Interpretation and Translation Research, held on March 28-30, 2014 at Gallaudet University, drew over 300 on site attendees and 100 plus streaming participants. The event was hosted by the Gallaudet University Regional Interpreter Education Center, the Department of Interpretation and the Gallaudet Interpretation and Translation Research Center. The Symposium included three keynote lectures, 42 presentations, and a poster session.

The purpose of the Symposium was to promote the exchange of scholarship on signed language interpretation/translation and to serve as a platform for interdisciplinary research from various fields of study including linguistics, communication, sociology, psychology, anthropology, and education. The Symposium served as a forum for scholars and students of signed language interpretation, translation, and related fields to gather and share knowledge with one another.
