Many Gallaudet students majoring in American Sign Language, Deaf Studies, Interpretation, Education, and other fields complement their studies with a minor in linguistics. Students may also create a self-directed major related to linguistics. Linguistic courses provide an excellent foundation for careers and graduate study in a wide array of fields and research. In our Linguistic Research Experience course, you will get experience as a research assistant on a current linguistics research project being conducted by LIN faculty. Students say this is a highlight of their education (though they thought they would not like research) and often continue as a research assistant or continue their learning and become a researcher. Talk with us about the possibilities for you!
