Gallaudet's Department of World Languages and Cultures is a world leader in opening up international internship opportunities and study abroad experiences for deaf students.
The department's exceptional faculty of teachers and scholars helps Gallaudet students increase their global marketability by acquiring proficiency in other languages, knowledge of world cultures, and experience with international deaf communities and their sign languages through internships and study abroad.
All major programs in the department include some type of international experience.

The department's English Language Institute (ELI) offers the only officially accredited ESL program for deaf students in the United States. It provides intensive English studies for international students lacking college-level skills in written English or needing to acquire a working knowledge of English for educational purposes.
