Learn LSE (Sign Language from Spain) in Madrid or intern with the local deaf community in Guatemala. Gallaudet is a world leader in opening international experiences to deaf students.
More than 80 agencies of the federal government rely on professionals with intermediate- to high-level competence in foreign languages. And multinational corporations and non-governmental organizations need people with foreign language skills to compete effectively in their global markets.
With the growing number of Spanish-speaking people in the United States, having knowledge of the Spanish language and Latino culture can be a great asset in your job search in government, law, business, education, healthcare, social work and many other professions.
As a Spanish major, you will build your skills and understanding through Spanish language courses, Spanish literature courses and an international internship or study abroad experience.
Alumni have gone on to business and education careers; they have also earned graduate degrees for careers in linguistics, international development and translation.

All Spanish majors must complete at least one internship or study abroad course to hone their skills in the written language and acquire skills in another sign language. Recent students have completed internships in Spain and Guatemala, working with local deaf communities, at deaf schools and in deaf associations.
Many of Gallaudet’s recent international studies and Spanish majors are employed or in graduate school within one year of graduation. Learn more about alumni of the Department of World Languages and Cultures.
