2019 Benefits Open Season

The 2019 Benefits Open Season will run from Monday, November, 11, 2019 through Monday, December 9, 2019. Below is a summary of benefits you may change during Open Season.  You can find more information on each benefit plan by visiting the Gallaudet University Benefits website.  Unless otherwise noted, you should submit the enrollment forms to College Hall, Room 105.


Health Insurance (FEHB) 

  • To view the 2020 FEHB premiums, please visit this link. Additional plan information, including the comparison tool.
  • To enroll, cancel, or change your health insurance plan, please complete this form.  The form may be submitted through email (must be scanned to benefits@gallaudet.edu) or delivered to College Hall, Room 105.
    The effective date of any change will be January 5, 2020.  It will affect your paycheck on January 28, 2020.

 
Dental Insurance (FEDVIP)

  • To enroll, cancel, or change your FEDVIP dental insurance plan, please visit the BENEFEDS website.
  • The effective date of any change will be January 1, 2020.  It will affect your paycheck on January 28, 2020. 

 
Vision Insurance (FEDVIP)

  • To enroll, cancel, or change your FEDVIP vision insurance plan, please visit the BENEFEDS website
     The effective date of any change will be January 1, 2020.  It will affect your paycheck on January 28, 2020. 

 
Long-Term Disability Insurance (LTD)

  • The biweekly premium is $0.08 per $100 of your monthly base salary.  This is deducted from your paycheck on a pre-tax basis.  Detailed information on LTD can be found on this link
  • If you wish to opt out of LTD, you must complete the waiver form during Open Season.   The form may be submitted through email (must be scanned) or delivered to College Hall, Room 105.
  • If you wish to re-enroll into the LTD program, you must provide evidence of good health.  This can be done outside of Open Season. 
    The effective date of any change will be January 1, 2020.  It will affect your paycheck on January 14, 2020.


Flexible Spending Account (FSA)

  • You may contribute $100 to $2,700 towards Health Care and from $100 to $5,000 towards Dependent Care FSA in 2020.  The contributions will be deducted from your paychecks on a pre-tax basis.   
  • Participants can carry over up to $500 of unused 2019 health care funds into the 2020 plan year.  Furthermore, participants will have only have from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019 to incur eligible expenses from their 2019 account.  The health care FSA account no longer has a 2 1/2 month grace period.  
  • There is no carryover for dependent care FSA account.  However, the grace period still applies, meaning you have from January 1st to March 15th of the following year to incur expenses towards your prior year account. Note, you still must submit all expenses no later than April 30th of the next year. 
  • To enroll or re-enroll, please visit the FSA website.  If you are currently participating in the 2019 plan year, you MUST re-enroll online if you wish to continue in the 2020 plan year.
    The effective date of any change will be January 1, 2020.  It will affect your paycheck on January 1, 2020.

Flexible Premium Plan (FPP)

  • Your health and dental insurance premiums can be deducted on a pre-tax basis if you are enrolled in FPP.
  • There is no additional cost for enrolling in FPP. It just lowers your taxable income, thus enabling you to bring home more money.
  • To enroll, please complete this form.  The form may be submitted through email (must be scanned) or delivered to College Hall, Room 105.
  • If you were hired on or after January 1, 2012, you were automatically enrolled into FPP. However, you were given an opportunity to waive FPP if you wanted to opt out.
    The effective date of any change will be January 1, 2020. It will affect your paycheck on January 1, 2020.
