The 2020 Benefits Open Season will run from Monday, November, 9, 2020 through Monday, December 14, 2020. Below is a summary of benefits you may change during Open Season.  You can find more information on each benefit plan by visiting the Gallaudet University Benefits website.  

Health Insurance (FEHB) 

  • To view the 2021 FEHB premiums, please visit this link. Additional plan information, including the comparison tool.
  • To enroll, cancel, or change your health insurance plan, please complete this form.  The form may be submitted through email (must be scanned to benefits@gallaudet.edu) or delivered to the main HR office, College Hall, Room 106. The form can also be found on Adobe eSign
    The effective date of any change will be January 3, 2021.  It will affect your paycheck on January 26, 2021. 

Dental Insurance (FEDVIP)

  • To enroll, cancel, or change your FEDVIP dental insurance plan, please visit the BENEFEDS website.
  • The effective date of any change will be January 1, 2021.  It will affect your paycheck on January 26, 2021.  

Vision Insurance (FEDVIP)

  • To enroll, cancel, or change your FEDVIP vision insurance plan, please visit the BENEFEDS website
     The effective date of any change will be January 1, 2021.  It will affect your paycheck on January 26, 2021. 

Long-Term Disability Insurance (LTD)

  • The biweekly premium is $0.08 per $100 of your monthly base salary.  This is deducted from your paycheck on a pre-tax basis.  Detailed information on LTD can be found on this link
  • If you wish to opt out of LTD, you must complete the waiver form during Open Season.   The form may be submitted through email (must be scanned) or delivered to the main HR office, College Hall, Room 106.
  • If you wish to re-enroll into the LTD program, you must provide evidence of good health.  This can be done outside of Open Season. 
    The effective date of any change will be January 1, 2021.  It will affect your paycheck on January 12, 2021.

Flexible Spending Account (FSA)

  • You may contribute $100 to $2,750 towards Health Care and from $100 to $5,000 towards Dependent Care FSA in 2021.  The contributions will be deducted from your paychecks on a pre-tax basis.   
  • Participants can carry over up to $550 of unused 2020 health care funds into the 2021 plan year.  Furthermore, participants will have only have from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020 to incur eligible expenses from their 2020 account.  The health care FSA account no longer has a 2 1/2 month grace period.  
  • There is no carryover for dependent care FSA account.  However, the grace period still applies, meaning you have from January 1st to March 15th of the following year to incur expenses towards your prior year account. Note, you still must submit all expenses no later than April 30th of the next year. 
  • To enroll or re-enroll, please visit the FSA website.  If you are currently participating in the 2020 plan year, you MUST re-enroll online if you wish to continue in the 2021 plan year.
    The effective date of any change will be January 1, 2021.  It will affect your paycheck on January 12, 2021.

Flexible Premium Plan (FPP)

  • Your health and dental insurance premiums can be deducted on a pre-tax basis if you are enrolled in FPP.
  • There is no additional cost for enrolling in FPP. It just lowers your taxable income, thus enabling you to bring home more money.
  • To enroll, please complete this form.  The form may be submitted through email (must be scanned) or delivered to the main HR office, College Hall, Room 106.
  • If you were hired on or after January 1, 2012, you were automatically enrolled into FPP. However, you were given an opportunity to waive FPP if you wanted to opt out.
    The effective date of any change will be January 1, 2021. It will affect your paycheck on January 12, 2021.

Open Season’s Virtual Benefits Fair

Human Resources will not be having a benefits fair and it will be different this year from any other previous years due to the pandemic.  Human Resources will be doing a Zoom webinar of what is new with the 2020 Open Season on Monday, November 9, 2020 from 2 to 3PM.  

Various insurance companies will be providing a webinar, Q/A and/or live chats and a list can be found below: 

BlueCross and BlueShield will be providing a virtual webinar and Q/A on Tuesday, November 10th and Tuesday, November 24th from 3:30PM to 5:30PM. Please register in advance: November 10th or November 24th. Both dates will be with closed captioning. 

Long Term Care Partners, LLC will be hosting a virtual benefits fair and employees can review 2021 plan details.  Employees can log in anytime during the Federal Benefits Open Season, from November 9 to December 14, 2020.  Employees can also download 2021 plan brochures, visit individual carrier booths, watch videos, and register for educational webinars.  Representatives from all participating carriers will be available to take your questions during our four live carrier chat days: Friday, November 13, 2020, between 10A-5P (EST), Friday, November 20, 2020, between 10A-5P (EST), Wednesday, December 2, 2020, between 10A-5P (EST), and Wednesday, December 9, 2020, between 10A-5P (EST).  This will be an opportunity for you to explore your benefits in one convenient location.  Learn valuable information, get answers from the experts, and visit carrier booths to shop and compare different benefit plans.  There will be two sessions with closed captioning: Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at 10:30AM (EST) and Thursday, November 19, 2020 at 1:30PM (EST).
