Health insurance for regular-status employees is offered through the Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) program. FEHB offers a variety of health insurance plans, including fee-for-service, HMO, CDHP, and HDHP. The cost is shared by the employee and Gallaudet University.

All FEHB plans cover flu shots at no cost to their members. CDC recommends an annual flu vaccination for everyone over the age of 6 months. There is also no cost-sharing for preventative care, including prenatal care, healthy newborn visits, hearing and vision screening for children, diabetes, cholesterol, osteoporosis screening for adults, and breast, colon, and cervical cancer screenings for adults. Furthermore, there is no cost-sharing for routine immunizations for children and adults. Members can also receive tobacco cessation counseling and medication at no cost.

Employees can enroll, change, or cancel their health insurance plans during Open Season. However, certain changes are allowed outside of Open Season if employees experience qualifying life events.

For more detailed information about the health insurance plans under FEHB, please visit the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) website.

The comparison tool can be found on OPM’s website.
