Funeral Leave - Non-Union Staff and Clerc Center Teachers
Who is eligible for paid Funeral Leave?
Regular status and extended temporary staff employees and Clerc Center teachers are eligible for paid funeral leave. (University faculty should refer to the Faculty Guidelines.)
How many days can I take off?
The Funeral Leave policy provides for up to five days off with pay.
Can I take off at any time?
Funeral leave begins upon the death of the immediate family member.
What if I need more time off?
Additional time may be requested as annual leave (staff), personal leave (Clerc Center teachers), or leave without pay.
Who is considered an immediate family member?
An immediate family member is a mother, father, spouse, registered domestic partner, child, sister, brother, grandparent, grandchild, legal guardian or parent or sibling of the employee's spouse or domestic partner.
What if a person close to me, other than an immediate family member, passes away?
Leave for someone other than an immediate family member (e.g., aunt, in-law, friend) must be taken as annual leave (staff), personal leave (Clerc Center teachers), or leave without pay.
