After School Programs
KDES offers a comprehensive after-school program designed to promote recreational and educational learning among peers. The goal is to help students develop a lifelong appreciation for sports and recreation through the activities offered.
A broad range of recreational activities and after-school homework assistance is available to students from Monday through Thursday (3:15-5 p.m.). Activities are geared towards student interests and may change based on season, facility availability, and student participation.
Current activities include:
- ASL Storytelling
- Arts & Crafts
- Inline skating lessons
- Team building activities
- Swimming lesson
- Homework Help
- Recreational Activities
Students in Grades 5-8 may also participate in the KDES Athletics Program. 4th Grade students are invited to practice with sports teams (they will only practice, not playing any games).
KDES takes great pride in its athletics program. We offer the following sports to students in grades 5-8:
Fall - Cross Country and Volleyball
Winter - Boys & Girls basketball
Spring - CO-ED Track & Field
All of our teams compete in the Potomac Valley Athletic Conference. We compete locally against private and public schools as well as schools for the deaf.
To get a current schedule of our athletic events, please contact your child's coach or Nanette Virnig, coordinator of KDES After School Program.
