Motion Light Lab featured on NPR:...
The Motion Light Lab, the newest hub of the National Science Foundation Science of Learning Center, Visual Language and Visual Learning (VL2) at Gallaudet, was featured in a June 28 web story on National Public Radio’s (NPR) All Tech Considered section.
The story by Emma Bowman focused on the new motion capture work that ML2 is doing: “In its latest venture, the team wants to pair original ASL rhymes with a 3-D signing avatar, a concept that could eventually be rendered into a signing cartoon animal on a kids show, for example.”
Support for this work is from a three-year, $900,000 grant by the W. M. Keck Foundation for a research team led by Dr. Laura-Ann Petitto, Co-Principal Investigator and Science Director of VL2 and Science Director of BL2. The team will conduct basic science to address the early learning needs of vast numbers of children throughout the nation who are impacted by the devastating consequences of minimal or delayed language exposure, particularly deaf children.
