The LGBTQA Resource Center leads, coordinates, and promotes all LGBTQA-related initiatives, programs, and services stemming from the Office of Diversity and Equity for Students (ODES). In supporting ongoing efforts towards the creation of a campus environment that is conducive to the retention, persistence, graduation, and post-graduation success of LGBTQA individuals, the LGBTQA Resource Center designs, hosts, and sponsors research-based programs that support the personal, academic, and social growth of LGBTQA students. LGBTQA Resource Center programming is deliberately designed and data-informed.
Annual and ongoing programming that falls under the auspices of the LGBTQA Resource Center includes the Pride Presenters Series, which brings notable speakers, educators, performers, and advocates to the campus to lecture on issues of interest. Community-based programming includes Coming Out Day, Transgender Awareness Week, and Pride Month, among other notable dates of observance. Programs are designed to raise awareness, heighten visibility, reduce stigma, and improve knowledge about LGBTQA-related historical and current events as well as resources on campus, locally, nationally, and internationally. Finally, Lavender Graduation is a beloved and annual staple of the academic year as an opportunity for LGBTQA and ally students to leave their mark on campus as they prepare to conclude their college career at Gallaudet.
