Elsie Sue Stecker, ’08 & G-’11, has been hired as the first-ever full-time deaf interpreter at the White House. Stecker is teaming with Lindsay Snyder, a hearing interpreter, to provide ASL interpretation for White House press briefings and events.

Stecker, a Certified Deaf Interpreter, has been working with the White House press office for some time. She interpreted the Presidential inauguration in January 2021 and the State of the Union address last month, and has been a constant presence at press briefings throughout President Bidem’s administration. These events are available on the White House YouTube channel.

Several news outlets carried stories about this historic appointment this week, including CBS News.  Hi5 will feature Elsie Sue in a future issue.
