Happy Birthday, Gallaudet!

One hundred fifty-eight years ago today, Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, signed the charter authorizing the Columbia Institution for the Education of the Deaf and Dumb and the Blind to award collegiate degrees. The school was renamed the National College for the Deaf and Dumb. Today, it is the vibrant institution of higher education we know as Gallaudet University.

So – happy birthday, Gallaudet!

For over 50 years, the Gallaudet University Alumni Association has held a brunch or luncheon in conjunction with an awards ceremony. On Saturday, April 9 at noon Eastern Time, there will be a virtual awards ceremony, during which GUAA will present three awards:
