Student Engagement and Lead...
Horejes, Garvin to present at fall...
Dr. Thomas Horejes, Associate Provost for Student Success and Academic Quality, has been selected to present at the Education Advisory Board’s CONNECTED 2021 virtual conference September 3-5. His proposal was one of ten selected from 120 submissions. He will discuss how the Navigate smartphone app has fostered student belongingness and increased retention rate here at Gallaudet University. According to Dr. Horejes, the app, introduced in 2018, is being used by 92 percent of our undergraduate students, and has helped to increase our retention rate by 11.4 percent. “We feel we’re shifting to a 21st century technology with mobility. Navigate is a much more valuable tool,” he said.
Monica Garvin, Employer Relations Specialist in Office for Career Success, has been invited by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) to be a panelist for their Disability Signature Series during National Disability Employment Awareness Month this October. Ms. Garvin, a 12-year Gallaudet employee, was invited based on a blog she wrote for NACE in July.
NACE’s Disability Signature Series in Recognition of National Disability Employment Awareness Month will take place on October 7, 14, 21, 26, and 28. Ms. Garvin’s panel presentation will be on October 28.
Congratulations to both Dr. Horejes and Ms. Garvin!
