Dr. Chizuko Tamaki, Au.D., Ph.D., has been selected to join the 2021 American Academy of Audiology board of directors. She will serve a three-year term, beginning October 1, 2021 and ending September 30, 2024.
Dr. Tamaki earned a B,S, in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Plattsburgh State University of New York before earning her Au.D. and Ph/D. degrees from Gallaudet University. She now is Professor and Au.D. Program Director in the School of Human Services and Sciences at Gallaudet. Prior to joining the Gallaudet faculty, she was an audiologist at a multi-office practice for nine years, primarily providing vestibular and electrophysiology services.
In her current role, Dr. Tamaki oversees the curriculum, assessment, strategic planning, other administrative tasks for the Au.D. program; teaches Au.D. and Ph.D. courses in the areas of diagnostic audiology, vestibular studies, and professional issues; mentors student research in Au.D. and Ph.D. programs; and directs the Vestibular and Balance Lab, an interdisciplinary research program exploring the interactions of vestibular functions, sign language use, and spatial functions.
Two other Gallaudet alumni are on the American Academy of Audiology Board of Directors: Sarah Sydlowski, PhD ’10, is president-elect, and Samantha Kleindienst Robler, G-’08, AuD ’09, & PhD ’14, is a board member. Congratulations to all three for their accomplishments and leadership!
