Christopher Moreland, M.D., M.P.H., has been appointed co-director for the Center for Deaf Health Equity. He began in this role earlier this month.
Dr. Moreland is a clinical-educator and associate professor at the Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas at Austin. He is a 2005 graduate of the McGovern Medical School at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, and completed an internal medicine residency and an academic medicine fellowship at the University of California at Davis in 2008.
In addition to his clinical work, he has served as a clinician-educator for medical students and residents for over a decade. His research has addressed medical education, healthcare disparities, and workforce diversity.
Dr, Moreland and Dr. Poorna Kushalnagar, the founding director for the Center for Deaf Health Equity and chief research officer for the Office of Research, have collaborated for many years on health disparities research, with multiple publications addressing the health of the deaf and hard of hearing community.
Dr. Moreland also will work closely with Dominic Lacy, Chief Operating Office, to enhance the Student Health Services by implementing last year’s recommendations from the Design for Health Institute at the University of Texas at Austin.
Dr. Moreland looks forward to serving Gallaudet and the university community.
