Overview

Through its Office of National Outreach, Gallaudet University brings its wealth of resources, services and programs to deaf people, families, and professionals around the country. Whether it’s through one of our regional centers or our very popular youth programs such as the Academic Bowl or the Battle of the Books, the Office of National Outreach has something for everyone.

The Office of National Outreach has two major components:

Gallaudet University Regional Centers

Through partnerships with host institutions, the outreach services of the Gallaudet University Regional Centers include:
  • Dissemination of resources from Gallaudet University, Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center and regional networks.
  • Development, provision, or support of educational transition, Early Intervention, and topic-specific training programs or services.
  • Consultation regarding Early Intervention and Deaf Education.
  • Collaboration with programs throughout respective regions to foster opportunities across the lifespan.

Regional centers include:

  • East: Northern Essex Community College, Haverhill, MA
  • Midwest: Austin Community College, Austin, TX
  • South: Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind, Talladega, AL
  • West: Ohlone College, Fremont, CA

Youth Programs

The Youth Programs component provides opportunities for middle and high school students to connect with each other, pursue academic challenges, and experience personal and academic development. The Youth Programs accomplish this through its regional and national Academic Bowl competitions, and national Battle of the Books competition. Also offered are summer learning experiences for high school students.
