The functions of the Office of Research Support and International Affairs (RSIA) encompass those of the former Gallaudet Research Institute, Office of International Relations, and Office of International Programs and Services. RSIA is located in Dawes House and is under the auspices of the Office of the Provost. The office supports Strategic Plan Goals A (enrollment), B (retention) and E (research, development, and outreach)

RSIA strives to fulfill Gallaudet University's mission to encourage, promote, and facilitate scholarly research, and to offer and oversee international and intercultural education opportunities for Gallaudet students and faculty, as well as the global community. The Research Support component of the office enhances Gallaudet's intellectual climate by facilitating scholarly opportunities on the Gallaudet campus, while International Affairs serves as the point of contact for the University's international students, partnerships, visitors, and scholars, and offers opportunities for Gallaudet students, faculty, and staff to connect with other societies around the world and share their knowledge.

Specifically, RSIA:

  • Offers services for students, faculty, visiting students, scholars, researchers, and others to enhance their expertise and knowledge of international issues related to deaf people and people with disabilities.
  • Helps ensure that international students are in compliance with current immigration regulations.
  • Oversees Fulbright, World Deaf Leadership, and Sasakawa scholarships.
