Pending availability, Commencement Housing is available to those who wish to stay in one of our residence halls on Gallaudet University's campus during Commencement Week on May 11-14, 2022. This option is relatively cheaper than surrounding hotels and provides you the opportunity to experience Gallaudet University's vibrant, rich and diverse culture. Furthermore, residing on campus allows you with the opportunity to be close to your loved ones already residing on or around campus, easily participate in or observe events on or around campus, or give you a taste of what residence hall living is all about.
The nightly rate is $40 per person, per night. Linens are included. Children who are 12 years or younger will not be charged.
LINENS: A set of linens includes a blanket, pillow, pillowcase, one fitted sheet and one flat sheet, and a large bath towel.
We accept online payments with debit/credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, and Discover).
Cancellations after May 1, 2022 within 72 hours will incur a $25.00 fee per room/suite after payments are made. This will be deducted from the balance refunded.
Availability is determined on a first-come, first-serve basis. Once your registration form is received and availability is determined, you will then be contacted with more information. If we do have availability, further instructions regarding payments will be provided.
NOTE: We will honor requests that are made at least seventy-two (72) hours in advance.
We strive to accommodate those who need special accommodations for medical/disability reasons. Please be sure to inform us what types of needs are needed. This includes but is not limited to suites with a bathtub, wheelchair accessibility, shower rails, and lower floors. Once we are aware of any accommodations, we will do our best to ensure they are met.
Our accommodations are much like what you would expect at a hostel; each of our guests will be provided with a twin-XL bed, student desk and chair, a closet/wardrobe, and a dresser. Guests staying in a suite with a private bathroom will be provided toilet paper.
We do not provide other items such as toiletries (e.g., shampoo, soap, lotion), washcloths and hand towels, other personal-care items (e.g., hair dryer, hangers, iron), trashcans, refrigerators, microwaves, alarms/clocks, and the like, so please bring any other additional items you may need during your stay. TVs are available for use in the lobby areas.
You can complete the Registration Form online. Once the form is submitted electronically, you will be receiving a copy of the submitted form via e-mail.
Visitor Housing staff will contact you via e-mail to confirm the receipt of the Registration Form and send you the link to make your payment online with your credit/debit card. Payment must be made in full prior to confirming your reservation.
Reservation confirmation will be sent to the requestor via email on Tuesday, May 9, 2022.

When can I reserve rooms for commencement? We are accepting requests on a first come, first serve basis from now until May 1, 2022.
Do you offer a group rate? We do not offer group rates. The charges will be based on the number of people who registered as visitors.
Is there a limited number of commencement guests? No, but each person must be assigned to a bed in each room/suite except children who are 2 years old or younger.
Can we stay with the graduating student in a suite? If there are available beds in the suite, then this is possible.
Can I register my child(ren)? Yes, you can. All families with children will be assigned to Carlin Hall, Clerc Hall and LLRH6 due to private bathrooms being available. There will be no charge for children under the age of twelve (12).
Will I get a suite with private bathroom? All commencement guests will be assigned to Carlin Hall, Clerc Hall and LLRH6 that have private bathrooms. If there’s an overflow on requests, then assignments will be made in the residence hall(s) where only community bathrooms are available.
Will linens be provided? Linens are included in the cost for the visit. Linens include pillow, pillowcase, two sheets, blanket and a towel. However, they will not be exchanged on a daily basis.
What amenities are included in the room? There are suites with 2 to 4 twin-sized beds, desks, chairs, closets, dressers, night stands. We do not provide microwaves, refrigerators, hangers, hair dryers, irons or ironing boards. TVs are available for use in the lobby areas.
Can I choose a specific residence hall? Guests will be assigned to specific residence hall(s) according to availability of the suites/rooms along with the needs of each group.
Do you have special housing accommodations for guests with medical or disability needs? We provide special housing accommodations based on availability. Please be sure to let us know what type of needs you need on the Commencement Housing form. The accommodations include, but are not limited to, suites with bathtubs, wheelchair accessible rooms, showers with railings and being assigned to lower floors.
What payment methods do you accept? We only accept payments online with credit/debit cards (Visa, MasterCard, and Discover).
When will the charges be made on the credit/debit cards? You will receive an email from our office with online payment information if you wish to pay online. To be guaranteed a room(s) in our residence halls, all Commencement Housing forms must include payments made in full. All charges made by debit/credit cards will be made immediately when payments are made online.
Is there a cancellation fee? Yes, if you choose to cancel your request for Commencement Housing any time after May 1, 2022, the cancellation fee is $25.00 per room/suite, and it will be deducted from your form of payment. The remaining balance will be refunded to you electronically as indicated on the Commencement Housing form. No refunds for room reservations will be given for late arrivals or early departures.
When can I check in?
Graduating students: You can check in after 10am on Monday, May 9, 2022. No early arrivals will be granted.
Commencement guests: You can check in after 2pm on Wednesday, May 11, 2022. No early arrivals will be granted.
How long can I stay? Check out is at 12pm on Saturday, May 14, 2022, for all Commencement guests and graduating students.
What if I lose my room key and/or Access card? You can report the lost key/Access card to the residence hall office and a replacement will be given to you. The cost of replacement would be $50.00 for the lost key and $25.00 for the Access card. Payments for the replacement(s) must be made and paid upfront and online prior to getting a replacement(s).
Where can I get my meals on campus? The Market Place in the Student Union Building will be open for breakfast and lunch. The cafeteria is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You can purchase your meals with cash or credit/debit cards. There are also a variety of local restaurants that are within walking distance.
Where can I get a parking pass? Parking passes can be purchased at the Department of Public Safety office. To inquire more about rates, they can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Am I allowed to bring my dog(s)? Gallaudet University does not allow any kind of pets inside the building unless it is a service dog. Visitors with service animals may bring their service animals on campus without formally registering the animals but are responsible for ensuring that their service animals have up-to-date immunizations and vaccines in compliance with District of Columbia vaccination requirements at the time of their campus visits.
What am I NOT allowed to bring in the residence hall? According to the University Handbook, underage drinking, drugs, electric heater or any other items that do not meet the required UV safety and weapons are not allowed.
Will I be able to access the Internet? Yes. You will find the guidelines on how to get access to the Internet in your Visitor Housing folder upon check-in.
