Students of the new Maguire Academy of Risk Management Insurance (RMI) attended a “Lunch and Learn” event at a Marsh & McLennan Companies office in northwest D.C. on Friday, April 15, 2016.

During the workshop, topics surrounding business and insurance were discussed, including global analytics and actuarial, cybersecurity, benchmarking and customer interactions.

“I found it fascinating how Marsh is one of the world’s largest companies, and how they took the time to help communities in India,” said RMI student Nathaniel Holmes. “I enjoyed today’s workshop, because the information I learned will really benefit me and my future career.”

RMI student Emily Livermore was fascinated with the fact that Marsh & McLennan was one of the largest companies in the world.

“Despite the fact that Marsh has so many employees, I was impressed by the way they explained their thorough procedures and goals for client satisfaction. This helped me to feel extra passionate about finishing my B.S. in Risk Management and Insurance to get where I want to be in the world of insurance coverage and finance,” said Livermore.

James Bruner, executive director of RMI at Gallaudet University, explained the impact of this and other workshops.

“These types of workshops are very beneficial to students in that it allows students to apply their classroom studies to real world issues and to seek solutions,” said Bruner. “Workshops like this also allow students to meet a variety of professionals in the risk management and insurance business and start to build a networking base. I was impressed and proud of all the students for their engagement and the many questions they posed to presenters.”

Marsh & McLennan is a global leader in insurance broking and risk management, with offices in more than 130 countries, and a work force of over 60,000 employees.
