Gallaudet-Nippon WDL Scholarship announcement

The Gallaudet-Nippon World Deaf Leadership (WDL) Scholarship makes it possible for deaf and hard of hearing leaders from developing nations to attend Gallaudet University. WDL aims to empower selected individuals through the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and aspirations that a higher education brings so that they can make significant contributions to their deaf community and nation. WDL is funded by the Nippon Foundation of Tokyo, Japan.

Gallaudet Conversations Across Nations (Gallaudet CAN)

Gallaudet's first-ever Gallaudet Conversations Across Nations (Gallaudet CAN) will take place in conjunction with inauguration week events. The Board of Trustees has announced that President Roberta 'Bobbi' Cordano's installation is scheduled for Friday, September 30, 2016, at 3:30 p.m. in the Field House.

Call for External Reviewers/Stakeholders to Review Proposed Gallaudet Research Priorities

Gallaudet University is in the process of updating its Research Priorities. Now we are asking the Gallaudet community to provide the names of agencies/organizations and individuals who they believe should be given an opportunity to provide feedback on the proposed research priorities.

NIH Grants through University of California Davis Awarded to Gallaudet

(Link to Daily Digest Announcement) The Office of Sponsored Programs wishes to congratulate Dr. Pilar Pinar, principal investigator, on her award in the amount of $64,909 for her project titled, "Literacy Skills in Deaf Readers." This grant comes from the University of California, Davis through the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Snowzilla Statistics Class Project Makes Use of RSIA Research Support Service

(Link to Daily Digest Announcement) On Friday January 22, 2016, classes were canceled but Dr. Regina Nuzzo's classes were busy doing fun blizzard-related statistics! Dr. Nuzzo set up a "Predict the Pile!" blizzard betting poll for her MAT 314 and PSY 713 statistics students.

Priority Research Fund (PRF) application deadline extended

RSIA would like to announce that the PRF application deadline for 2016 is now February 29.

Students Invited to Russian Join Scientific and Educational Competition

For the second consecutive year, Gallaudet is being invited to participate in a scientific and educational competition at Bauman Moscow State Technical University that has the goal of improving the quality of life for people with disabilities. The competition is for University students and - for the first time - Model Secondary School for the Deaf students.

Registration Now Open For Online GRE Course

(Link to Daily Digest Announcement) Planning for graduate school? Now you can prepare for the GRE from anywhere, using high-speed internet. Dr. Dan Lundberg will teach the GRE General Test Preparation online from January 25 to March 4, 2016.

Input from is requested from members of the Gallaudet Community to provide feedback on Goal E (which is to establish Gallaudet as a research epicenter) under the Gallaudet Strategic Plan by completing a survey available at the link below. This survey is bilingual as it is available in both American Sign Language and English.

Call for Submissions: Gallaudet Chronicles of Psychology Vol. 4, Issue 1

(Link to Daily Digest Announcement) Students may now submit manuscripts before the January 16, 2016 deadline for peer review and consideration of inclusion in the next publication of the Gallaudet Chronicles of Psychology. Information about the Journal may be found on the Department of Psychology website here.

Nippon Foundation Supports United Nations Learning Experience

Six students from Gallaudet's Master's in International Development (IDMA), B.A in International Studies, and Master's in Public Administration (MPA) programs had an opportunity to learn more about the work of the United Nations (UN) and current trends in the field of international development and global work by attending a September 24 side event to the UN Sustainable Development Summit

2015-2016 Priority Research Fund Grant Awardees Announced

The Office of Research Support and International Affairs (RSIA) joins Provost Carol Erting in extending congratulations to four faculty members for receiving Priority Research Fund (PRF) grants for FY 2016. The PRF is a $35,000 award paid by RSIA to assist faculty and staff with expenses associated with getting their studies underway, with the understanding that they will obtain external funding to expand and sustain work in their chosen area when the start-up funding expires.

Gallaudet Enters Exchange Agreement with Czech Republic University

Gallaudet has entered a five-year educational exchange agreement with Masaryk University, the second largest university in the Czech Republic. The agreement, for academic years 2015-2016 through 2019-2020, was recently signed by Gallaudet President T. Alan Hurwitz and Masaryk Rector Mikuláš Bek.

Department of Interpretation announces lecture series, 'Research Chats'

The Department of Interpretation (DOI) is proud to announce two exciting events: the 2015-2016 DOI Colloquium Lecture Series, and a new video series created by its Center for the Advancement of Interpreting and Translation Research (CAITR).

Beijing Union University 2015 Study Tour at Gallaudet University

The Office of Research Support and International Affairs (RSIA) recently hosted a group of 12 students and 2 faculty from Beijing Union University from July 27-August 8. The visit was part of an agreement between BUU and Gallaudet that allow students to reciprocally visit their partnering university through study and learning opportunities. The Office of Sponsored Programs wishes to congratulate Drs. Thomas Allen and Laura-Ann Petitto on this project funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) in the amount of $48,847.

Six Gallaudet undergraduates carried on in the footsteps of other small groups of students from the past two years by being immersed in the culture, art, history, and architecture of China, one of the world's oldest civilizations.
