How do I get tutoring services? To request tutoring services, please log-in to your Navigate to set up an appointment with your tutor. If you have difficulties, please email TIP@Gallaudet.edu. If you would like to become a tutor, please email TIP@Gallaudet.edu.
How much does it cost?Tutoring through Tutorial and Instructional Programs is free academic support services for Gallaudet students.
Tell me about the various services TIP provides.Tutoring is available on a one-on-one and small group basis for students enrolled in most courses. English coaching for students working on papers for class or self-improvement is available from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Thursdays and 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Fridays .
What should I expect from tutoring?A Tutor is not a substitute for your teacher. You are expected to attend class regularly. For tutoring sessions read your textbook and complete as much of your homework as possible. Come to the session with questions about your reading assignment or homework that you did not understand. You should bring your textbook, class notes, old test papers, class handouts, etc.
Why do we have to sign in Navigate? The Tutorial and Instructional Programs budget has to be justified by how well our services are used. The sign-in process helps us keep good records of usage of our services. In addition, the sign-in numbers tell us how students most use TIP so that we can make changes and better serve you.
What should I do if I am not happy my Tutor? You should come in and discuss the situation with a TIP supervisor.
I need accommodations, what do I do?Please contact the Office of Students with Disabilities (OSWD) at OSWD@Gallaudet.edu and explain the kind of accommodations needed.
Why are Tutors not allowed to help with take-home test?In accordance with the Academic Honesty Policy established by Gallaudet University, Tutors/English Coaches are not permitted to assist students with tests.
What happens if I miss an appointment? If you cannot make your scheduled tutoring session please email your tutor. Occasionally the tutor may not see the email prior to the session. Be mindful that you are only permitted to cut your tutoring sessions 3 times at the risk of being dropped from tutoring.
Why aren't English Coaches allowed to edit or proofread papers? If a Tutor or English Coach edits or proofreads course work (and makes changes for the student), the student would not be presenting his or her own true work.
