ASL Coach

ASL Coaches meet regularly with students from both first and second language backgrounds to provide feedback on American Sign Language (ASL) proficiency for one-time appointments or on-going basis. The coaches will provide language development assistance not limited to academics, organization, and discourse analysis. Additionally, the coaches will help students improve their comprehension and production skills in conversational ASL. The coaches must have mastery and knowledge of ASL Linguistic features presented in a variety of settings.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assess composition and language users’ strengths and weaknesses
  • Provide suggestion in the area of grammar, clarity, and discourse organization
  • Provide support for both first and second language learners by providing text suggestion in the area of grammar
  • Capable of working independently
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrate punctuality and reliability
  • Document reports in Starfish
  • Participate in meetings/training
  • Take CRLA 1/Regular Tutor Training within a month of hiring

Prerequisites for Employment

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Graduate status only: Letter of acceptance from your program
  • Undergraduate status only: GSR 103 with a grade of B or higher
