Brand Standards

Visual elements, such as a logo, school colors and other graphics play a major role in helping establish a visual identity for the university with the public. These elements, when used in a clear and consistent manner present a unified image and help people recognize the institution. Clear and consistent use includes printed materials which include, but is not limited to, letterhead, envelopes, certificates, brochures and other marketing materials. It also includes electronic formats which include, but is not limited to, the website and electronic letterhead.

Editorial Standards

These editorial standards were developed to help maintain consistency in Gallaudet University publications. In most cases, the standards follows The New York Public Library Writer’s Guide to Style and Usage (HarperCollins, 1994) and Merriam Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary, Tenth Edition (1994). Departments that prepare their own materials are encouraged to follow these guidelines to help University publications maintain a unified identity. The Editorial Standards includes information about the following: abbreviations, addresses, lists, numbers, punctuation, titles, word usage, writing inclusively, and writing for the web.
