Here are the summary of the new updates:

1) Registration: Registration will take place from Weds, Sept. 19 to Friday, Sept. 21. Teams will NOT be admitted to a Regional competition based on first come, first serve anymore. We will still recognize coaches who are the first to register and reward them with a pat on the back and a gold star on your foreheads. :) There is also a $100 discount for the team that registers first.

2) Screening Test: We will continue to use the screening test to determine the teams competing at each Regional competition. There is more information about the screening test in the Rules and Guidelines manual.

There will now be two warmup questions at the beginning of the screening test to help teams understand the format before we proceed with the actual screening test. There is also now a 30-second time limit for the 1st round tossup questions. For the 2nd round, there is a 20-second time limit. A confidentiality agreement will be sent to all schools in advance of the screening test and it is the responsibility of the coaches to review it before the screening test. All coaches, players, and administrators who are in the room must sign the confidentiality agreement.

3) Regional Competition Format: The same format we used last year will be used again this year. We made one change to the number of questions in the Opening Round and Round of 16 matches. There are now 12-12-10 questions in those matches. Starting with the Quarterfinals round, we will use a 16-16-10 format. The same will be true for the National competition.

4) Acceptable Answers section: There are a few additions and those are highlighted in the Rules and Guidelines manual.

All in all, we hope that the new changes bring more excitement to the Academic Bowl next year and we are all looking forward to another great year of the Academic Bowl!
