The National Literary Competition was established in 2016 after a six year hiatus when it was formerly known as the Gallaudet National Essay, Art, and ASL competition up until 2010. In 2016, the National Literary Competition was co-founded by Phi Kappa Zeta sorority and Gallaudet’s Youth Programs to ensure that deaf and hard of hearing K-12 students had the opportunity to showcase their English and ASL skills.
