Gallery of Diplomas - James Earl Carter, Jr.
The following are diplomas granted to Gallaudet University graduate and undergraduate students and signed by United States President James "Jimmy" Carter who was president from 1977 until 1981.
Although President Carter never visited campus during his four-year term in office, he and his wife, Rosalynn stayed on campus June 14-20, 1992, as part of a group of volunteers for Habitat for Humanity who were in town to rehab homes in Washington, D.C. and Baltimore. In October 2010, the Carters returned to the local area with Habitat for Humanity (though they were unable to attend the volunteer orientation held on campus due to a flight delay) and were joined by Gallaudet President Alan Hurwitz and other Gallaudet volunteers to work on homes in the Ivy City neighborhood that adjoins the campus.
Diplomas were also signed by Edward C. Merrill, Jr., president of Gallaudet from 1969 until 1983.
During this period the institution was known as Gallaudet College.
