Chris Kaftan

Chris Kaftan graduated from Gallaudet University with an MA in Deaf Education in 2006.  He chose Gallaudet for his graduate work because Gallaudet provides one of the top deaf education teaching programs in the nation and has access to resources in the DC metro area (schools and programs for the deaf/hard-of-hearing) that are unparalleled elsewhere.

When asked how Gallaudet prepared him for his work, Chris stated, “My education and training at Gallaudet prepared me for a career in teaching and K-12 education. I had great professors and classmates with a passion for education and improving the academics of deaf children in the United States. “  Chris is now the Director of Curriculum & Instruction at the Maryland School for the Deaf in Frederick, Md.

Chris’ advice to future graduate students of the Deaf Education program is, “Grab every opportunity you have. If you have an offer to go to a conference, or to present a paper, or to participate in something cool, to join a Greek organization, to contribute to the Buff and Blue, to be involved with the Graduate Student Association, DO IT. You’ll be a much better person from these experiences!”
