SHORT BIOGRAPHY  · Name: Brian Cheslik · Hometown: Columbus, Ohio · Classification: I am a transfer student with Junior class standing. · Majors/Minors: I am a double major in English and Secondary Education. · What do you like about Gallaudet University? Of course, I love the equal access to communication that I was not able to get at my other school, and the amazing friends that I have made who have become like family. I also love the opportunities that Gallaudet provides to their students, such as study tours, study abroad, internships, lectures, movies on-campus, etc. · What do you like about Honors? I love the support that we get from the Honors staff as well as the additional opportunities that being in Honors opens up. It allows you to develop a closer relationship with your professors, which can be incredible networking opportunities. · What are your goals for after graduation? To attend graduate school at Gallaudet University to obtain my masters in Deaf Education. After that, I have been considering a few options, perhaps join the Peace Corps, obtaining a teaching position in a Deaf school teaching English and Theatre, or even attending another graduate school for a second masters. I would also love to attend culinary school. · Are you involved in any areas of scholarship or research at GU (i.e. Capstone, VL2, internships)? I will begin working on my own capstone project next year, however I am currently doing ground work with Honors Contracts to help build a foundation for what will soon become my capstone project. I will also be placed into an internship for each of my majors over the next two years. · What are your hobbies? I am a major theatre geek. I have been acting and directing in community, semi-professional and professional theatre since I was 15 years old. I am also a huge movie buff-I own over 500 DVDs. In addition, I enjoy travelling to different places, reading, cooking, and wine. · Do you have any advice for students who are new to Gallaudet? Take advantage of every opportunity that Gallaudet offers, it will make you a well rounded person having experienced many different things and after all, you only live once!
